Where Curlew Thrive: A Testament to Moorland Management

Curlew

The RSPB has launched a new Curlew Action Plan, recognising the urgent need to reverse the alarming decline of one of our most iconic wading birds.

For years, Moorland Association members have been working tirelessly on the front line of curlew conservation. Through predator control, habitat restoration, and traditional moorland management, our members help provide the safe breeding grounds curlew desperately need.

As outlined here, curlew populations are up to four times more successful on well-managed moorland. The evidence is clear: where land managers are supported to maintain predator balance and protect nesting sites, curlew chicks stand a fighting chance.

We are pleased to see national attention turning to the plight of the curlew - but plans must include the people who live and work in our uplands. Without them, curlew will continue to fall silent.
