Peak District Moorland Group Partnership working with Derbyshire Fire Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service

Updated: Jan 14

The Peak District Moorland Group joined a training day organised by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service alongside RSPB, National Trust, Peak District National Park Authority and United Utilities, on tackling wildfires.

The event was held close to Stanage Edge, which has fallen victim to wildfires in the past.

Gamekeepers shared advice from their previous experience tackling major wildfires in the region.

Although reducing the fuel load is the key element which landowners and keepers will continue to stress, events such as these are nevertheless crucial to protect our precious moorlands when fires do break out.

Separately, the Peak District Moorland Group also took part in a wildfire awareness  event with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as part of its FireStoppers campaign.

There was also some water rescue training and advice on public safety around the Peak District reservoirs.

The moorland groups continue partnership working with other moorland stakeholders as well as sharing best practice and resources for the benefit of everybody accessing our cherished moorland areas.

Various PDMG keepers also gave media interviews to BBC Look North and Radio Tameside. Great work all involved!
